After 25 years in the wilds of Cornwall, Templederry Design has recently relocated to the heart of beautiful North Norfolk. Having worked in kitchen design all my working life, my intention has always been to eventually turn a keen interest in furniture and interior design into something more creatively hands on.
With this development in mind, some years ago I obtained a City and Guilds qualification in Decorative Paint Techniques. Since then, I have been painting and gilding furniture and other decorative items.
Along with the change in scenery, the time has come for the business to branch out into pastures new. I will still carry on with kitchen design because I relish the design challenges that come with each new project. But the world is a changing place and there is a new challenge to be found in the recycling, up cycling, restoration and repurposing of neglected items of furniture.
Why pay a small fortune for mass produced disposable furniture when there is an almost endless supply of well-made classic pieces of antique, vintage and retro furniture out there just waiting to be given a new lease of life. So called “Brown” furniture is unpopular now, so why not make it more user friendly by painting it?
Apart from the eco-friendly aspect of doing this, there is also the benefit of either integrating your existing furniture into a new interior scheme, or finding that perfect piece that can be finished to your exact requirements.
